10-year-old Matthew cried silent tears of joy. I'm a closet fan of giant robots versus reptilian monsters so when Pacific Rim came out in theaters some months ago, I drug my two extremely-too-young-for-monster-movie daughters and we watched ourselves some alien monsters and anthropomorphic mechs duke it out. I liked this book so much I bought a copy for my dad, who's a huge science fiction fan and who also likes action movies.more The action was rockin'! The story reminded me a bit of those fantastic anime shows I used to watch as a kid, like Robotech and Voltron, but for adults. I had to wait for something for a couple hours and started the sample to wile away the time, and I was hooked!Ĭharacterization was deeper than expected in an adventure story-it's not as multi-layered as a women's fiction novel, but it still gives really good depth to most of the main characters.

I read this book by accident-I was browsing movie soundtracks and liked the composer for the movie, and saw there was a novelization of the movie, so got a sample of the ebook. The story concept and story world was just so intriguing and so well done. I had to wait for something for a couple hours and started the sample to wile away the time, and I was hooked! Haven't seen the movie yet, but absolutely loved this book. Pacific Rim is SO much more than romance, you have characters who are dealing with a world that no longer supports them and their endeavors to protect it characters who are fighting to protect the family they created and characters who don't know anything but a world ruled by the fear of a Kaiju attack. The story told in Pacific Rim does not need to use a romantic relationship as a crutch, a theme which is so often found in movies these days.
(view spoiler) [While the movie's ending was, in my opinion, perfect, the book ends with Raleigh and Mako kissing. Now, sadly, for what I didn't like about this novel. While it doesn't deviate from the main script of the movie, this book does give you a little bit of the history and a look into each character's minds. This book offers a clear view of the world in Pacific Rim and the characters that live therein. Having read the book before seeing the movie in theaters, I was pleased with the details included in the novelization. I enjoyed everything about this book except for the ending.

Together, they stand as mankind's last hope against the mounting apocalypse. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)-who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity's resources for years on end.
